The Regional Ministerial Forum on Migration (RMFM) recently convened from February 26-29, 2024, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The event united leaders and delegates from 11 East and Horn of Africa countries, including Burundi, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, the United Republic of Tanzania, and Uganda.
The forum, co-hosted by the Ethiopian Ministry of Labor and Skills and the UN International Organization for Migration (IOM), centered on the theme “Harnessing the Power of Regular Migration Pathways for Youth Employment, Skills Development, and Green Economy.”
Investing in the Future
A key focus of the RMFM was empowering the region’s nearly 60 million youth aged 15-24. The forum spotlighted strategies to maximize the development impacts of labor migration in the region, with discussions revolving around investing in skills development programs, promoting knowledge transfer between regions, and identifying in-demand skills.
